The truth about bra sizes:
Have you ever wondered why your bra pinches, slips or just doesn't fit the way it should? Maybe you've even resigned yourself to the fact that bras are uncomfortable - but that doesn't have to be the case!

The reality is that the majority of women are wearing the wrong bra size. Studies and experts estimate that up to 80% of women choose the wrong size, often without realizing it. And the worst thing? Many believe they have long since found the perfect size, but their bras don't fit perfectly.

But why is that? Why is it that so many women are given the wrong advice - or rely on the wrong measurements themselves? And above all: how can you find out if you are wearing the right bra size?

Let's unravel the mystery together - because the perfect bra can boost your well-being, your posture and your self-confidence enormously.

Why do so many women wear the wrong bra size?

There are several reasons why women are wearing the wrong bras:

  1. Lack of advice
Many buy their bras in the same size for years without ever having a professional fitting. But your body changes - due to weight fluctuations, hormones or simply natural tissue changes.

  2. Incorrect sizing in the industry
Unfortunately, bra sizes are not standardized everywhere. Depending on the brand and cut, one and the same size can turn out differently. As a result, many women know "their size" but are unaware that it can vary in different models and brands.

  3. Errors when measuring yourself
Many women measure themselves incorrectly or do not interpret the measurements correctly. This happens particularly often with the underbust and cup size - resulting in a bra that is either too tight, too loose or simply unflattering.

Signs that your bra doesn't fit

You may be wondering whether you're really wearing the right bra size. Here are some clear warning signs that your bra is not fitting perfectly:

The underbust band is riding up → This means your band is too wide and not providing enough support.
The straps are cutting in or slipping → Your straps shouldn't have to 'hold' the bra - that's the job of the underbust band.
Your breasts swell out over the cup or unsightly edges appear → Then the cup is too small.
There is air between the bra and your breast or a crease forms in the cup → Then the cup is too big.
The center bridge of the bra lifts up and does not lie flat against the breast → This is a sign that your cup may be too small or the shape does not suit you.

If some of these points sound familiar, then you may well be wearing a bra that doesn't really fit you - and it's time to get your size right!

How to measure your bra size yourself

If you don't have the opportunity to get professional advice, you can also determine your bra size yourself. All you need is a measuring tape and a mirror.

1. measure your underbust measurement (band size)

  • Measure directly under your breasts where the underbust band of the bra sits.
  • Make sure that the measuring tape fits snugly but does not cut in.
  • Breathe in and out normally - the measurement should be taken when you are relaxed.
  • The result in cm determines your band size (e.g. 70, 75, 80 etc.).

2. measure your bust measurement (cup size)

  • Measure the widest part of your chest (usually at nipple level).
  • Hold the measuring tape loosely so that it does not constrict.
  • Stand up straight but relaxed - do not hold your breath!

Special case - sagging or very full breasts:
If your breasts are sagging or very soft, it can be helpful to bend forward slightly when measuring so that the breast falls completely into the measuring tape. This gives a more accurate measurement.

You can now use a bra size chart to determine the correct size. The difference between your underbust circumference and the upper chest circumference is the cup size:

The difference between the upper chest circumference and the underbust circumference determines your cup size:

Difference in cm Cup size
12-14 cm A
14-16 cm B
16-18 cm C
18-20 cm D
20-22 cm E
22-24 cm F

(The values may vary slightly depending on the brand).

Example:

  • Underbust circumference: 75 cm
  • Upper chest circumference: 92 cm
  • Difference: 92 - 75 = 17 cm → Cup C
  • Your bra size: 75C

If you measure 92 cm in the upper chest circumference and previously had a 75 cm underbust circumference, this results in a difference of 17 cm. According to the table, this corresponds to a cup C.

💡 Tip: If you are between two sizes, try both - sometimes a slightly larger or smaller cup fits your breast shape better.
